neways, for those of u whu are familiar with grey's or E.R. here are some terms which mean the same thing:
houseman(H.O.)-intern
medical officer(M.O.)-resident
head of department(H.O.D.)-chief
the first day-relatively dull. had to explain who i was and the reason i was in the hosp. several times as most of the staff were not aware of the JPA exposure programme. visited the ortopaedic ward. hightlight-specialist hentaming his housemen because they were not sure of the patient's case and couldnt answer his questions. hehe. ^o^
Dr.H(specialist) went sumthing like: ' Where did u graduate from?
(H.O) 1 : Russia
(H.O) 2 : U.M.
(H.O) 3 : Indon
Dr.H : So what is so important about this bone(utters some out-of this-world-term)?
Russia, answer me!
H.O. 1 : (stares blankly.)
rest of H.O.s : (continue staring blankly, trying to use all their brain matter..)
Dr.H. : Oh, here comes Manipal. What's the answer?
Manipal H.O : erm...(answers wrongly)
Dr.H: Dont give me this crap la. Whatever you learn you flushed down the toilet alreadi ah?
( starts giving them anotomy lessons)...You HAVE TO remember this till the day you die! okayyy???

2nd Day. surgical ward- Case : 32-year old unmarried pregnant woman stabbed herself.
which was pretty much the most exciting case of the day.
Day 3-BEST DAY EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the most-incredible-lucky-jaw dropping-adrenaline-pumping-hip-swaying-body-shivering-feet-in-the-
air-opportunity !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got into the O.T.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for those of u whu r a lil' slow, its OPERATION THEATRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after my poor legs had to run from one building to another to seek for permission! but it was so worth it!!!!! :) * grins from ear to ear*
first thing first, we had to change to the blue gown (like the ones u see on grey's) ..hehe.. ;)
with the cap and mask as well..
and the O.T. was frezzing cold...and i mean freezing..at 16 degreess...and the clothes we were wearing..it was barely enuf...christine's fingers even turned blue...aiikss!!!!
1st op. was the removal of abscess from the breast by incision. the incision was about 8 cm long!!!( abscess is a collection of pus, whittish-yellow ewww substance..) gross.icky..but part of the job. ;S
2nd op. tracheotomy.didnt know much bout it b4 dis,but gosh, u'all shd be so lucky u dun need a breathing device to help u breathe!! as u can probably guess, its a surgery whereby a tube is inserted into the opening of the patients trachea so that air can immediately reach the lungs..no more using the nose or mouth to take in air..

Doctors perform emergency tracheotomies as last-resort procedures. They are done only if the patient's windpipe is obstructed and the situation is life-threatening.( Barone, J 2002)

the third and final one we managed to watch was the C-section!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yays!! and honestly i never thought it would happened but i shed a few tears when i saw the baby! and it was a baby boy!!!!! so adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and i love the surgeons in dis op.!
they are the ones whu layan-ed us the most la..

here goes a part of our conversation:-
Dr.X : Do you know what dis is? ( points to this red round red thing)
Ashlea : ermmm....no..
Dr.X : It's the uterus!
Ashlea : But it doesnt look anything like the ones in the book!!!!!!!!!!!!(it-seriously-doesnt!)
Dr.X : (fidgets with it..and shows the way it's drawn in the book..)
Ashlea : owwhh....(but still a lil' unbelieving..) Could you show me the fallopian tube?
Dr.X : (uses forceps and points to f.t.)
here are the ovaries ..(and flipping the organs over)
Ah! This is the bowel!
Ashlea : (Millions of things running through her head!!!!!!!!!)
note to self: get ready to be surprised & remember to brush up on anatomy and physiology before entering o.t. !
